Future Looking Bright for Ford’s FR9
Six Fords Finish in Top 15 with New Engine at Chicagoland Speedway
Mooresville, NC Roush Yates Engines had tremendous success at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend with their new Ford FR9 engine. The FR9 has been met with some scrutiny during its first year on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit, but Saturday night’s LifeLock.com 400 showed impressive results in power and performance from the new engine.
Carl Edwards, driver of the number 99 Aflac Ford Fusion, was the highest finishing Ford in Saturday’s race at Chicagoland Speedway with a second place run. Edwards has had a rough start to the 2010 season in the Sprint Cup Series and was excited to see improvement in his team and engines.
“Second is bittersweet. You want to win, but we are obviously very happy with the result” said Edwards. “If we continue to run this fast each week, we will win plenty of races.”
Other Ford drivers running Roush Yates Engine’s FR9 this weekend that had impressive finishes include Kasey Kahne, driver of the number 9 Budweiser Ford Fusion (Finished 6th); Paul Menard, driver of the number 98 Menards Ford Fusion (Finished 10th); David Ragan, driver of the number 6 UPS Ford Fusion (Finished 12th); Matt Kenseth, driver of the number 17 Crown Royal Black Ford Fusion (Finished 13th); and AJ Allmendinger, driver of the number 43 Best Buy Ford Fusion (Finished 14th).
Currently, Ford has three drivers in the chase for the Sprint Cup Championship with Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, and Greg Biffle all in the top 12 in points.
