Ty Dillon is a NASCAR Nationwide Series driver but he is due to make his Sprint Cup Series debut soon. He will take part in the race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in his no. 33 Chevrolet.
Dillion is twenty two years of age and the younger brother of Austin Dillon who is a sprint cup driver and the grandson of Richard Childress who owns Richard Childress Racing. At the moment he is fourth in the Nationwide series having managed eleven out of seventeen top ten finishes. Dillion explained that he was very excited to have the opportunity to take part in Sprint Cup.
Dillon will be driving for Circle Sport who work closely together with Richard Childress Racing and they decided together with Joe Falk who owns Circle Sport to put him in the race. He explained that although it may not be his only race of the 2014 season, at the moment it was the only one that had been confirmed.
Dillon explained that he had done a test drive for Furniture Row Racing earlier in the year who have a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing. He was also able to fill in for his brother at a Sprint Cup practice session.
Dillon managed a second place finish in the Camping World Truck Series in 2013 and then moved to the Nationwide competition this season. It seems that he might be looking to move up to Sprint Cup series in the future as well but this could all depend on how well he does. He seems to be doing well in the Nationwide series and the Atlanta race could show whether he is capable of matching that skill in a Sprint Cup race. We will have to wait until August to find out.
