NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Mid Season Driver Review
We have already taken a look at the various teams and how well they are doing so far in the NASCAR Sprint Cup season now it is half way through. Now it is time to take a look at the drivers and see how they are shaping up.
Although qualification for the Chase is no longer based on the points table, this can still give us a good indication of how well each driver is doing. Even if they have not yet qualified, those near to the top of the points table have a bigger chance of qualifying than those near to the bottom.
Jeff Gordon is currently at the top of the table but with just a twelve point lead he is not a definite winner as there is still so much of the season left. He has had one race win and so has qualified for the Chase as well as six top five finishes and thirteen top ten finishes, which is certainly an impressive record. In second place is Dale Earnhardt Jr who has had two wins and nine top five finishes with thirteen top ten finishes as well and looks even more impressive. Brad Keselowski comes next with an impressive three wins and nine top five finishes. Matt Kenseth is in fourth place and although he had yet to have a win he is a big contender for the Chase still with seven top five finishes and twelve top ten finishes. In fifth place is Jimmie Johnson with his three wins and six top five finishes. The rest of the top ten is made up from Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano and Clint Bowyer. Then Paul Maynard, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Austin Dillon, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne, Brian Vickers, Tony Stewart and Marcos Ambrose make up positions ten to twenty. The last of the top twenty five is made up from Jamie McMurray, Aric Almirola, Martin Truex Jr, Casey Mears and Kurt Busch.
Out of these drivers there are a selection that have already had wins and therefore qualified for the Chase. These are Brad Keseleoski and Jimmie Johnson with an impressive three wins, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick with two wins and Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch. Denny Hamlin, Aric Almirola and Kurt Busch with one win each. The pressure will be on next weekend for those main contenders that have not yet had a win, to try to get one but also those with a win, will want to keep their good form and also get more wins if they can to keep down the competition that they will face in the Chase.
