Chris Buescher was celebrating his first Nationwide series win after a great strategy by his team. Crew chief Scott Graves assisted the win by giving him the perfect fuel strategy so that he could come first in the race.
Buescher said afterwards that it was incredible especially after he had only led n five laps in the whole season before this point. He admitted that his fuel light did come on towards the end of the race but he did not let up to his crew chief and continued on in order to get his maiden victory. Graves said afterwards that he knew that you needed to take risks in ordre to win the race and that was exactly what they did with the fuel and it paid off for them.
Buescher had qualified in fifth place and so started off the race near to the front of the field and manage dto keep up there for most of the race. However, it did look like the more experienced drivers would be able to win the race with Sam Hornish Jr in pole position and Alex Tagliani in second place. However, Tagliani and had a bad start but picked up again later in the race. There were also challanges from Regan Smith, Brendan Gaughan, Chase Elliott and Trevor Bayne.
At one point there was a nerve wracking moment for Buescher when there was a caution and not much fuel left but it paid off in the end when he managed to over take others due to a combination of problems such as car troubles with many overheating due to getting grass in their grilles.
The result has reduced Chase Elliott’s lead in the overall standings with Regan Smith ten points below him and Elliott Sanders six points behind him.
