Three weeks after Tony Stewart hit and killed another driver during a race he has made his racing come back in Sprint Cup. Unfortunately things did not go well for him during the race though. Despite having a warm reception from the crowd at the Atlanta Motor Speedway he hit the wall twice and the second time his tire blew and he had to quit the race on lap 172 or 325.
His crew chief said afterwards that things could have been better but they will have a chance next week at Richmond. Stewart has still not won a race this season and so will not qualify for the Chase unless he can do so next week.
When he arrived on the track he got a great applause as he was introduced to the crowd. He had a good start in 12th position and had managed to get up to fourth before he was hit by Kyle Bush’s car which caused both cars to hit the wall. Then later his tyre blew and he hit the wall and was out.
On Friday Stewart had spoken to the press about the accident and explained how much sadness and pain it had caused him.
The race ended with a good result for Kasey Kahne. He managed to get his first season win to allow him to qualify for the Chase. It was hard work for him though as he had to not only deal with the pressure of knowing that his other team mates; Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon had all qualified but get past Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin to win. Afterwards he said that itw as a great way to make it through to the Chase.
