NASCAR Chase Final Four Decided
An exciting race at the weekend saw a much needed win for Kevin Harvick meaning that he has now gone through to the final four. The dramatic victory pushed Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski out of the competition. Ryan Newman managed an 11th spot finish which was enough to secure his place on points. It was controversial though as he pushed past Kyle Larson, shoving him in to a wall in order to get it. Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano managed top ten finishes and they managed to qualify on points as well.
Keselowski was looking for a win in order to qualify but only managed fourth place. Gordon finished in second place but the points were just not enough to see him advance. Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards were also eliminated from the round.
Newman’s victory was a big one and perhaps rather unexpected as well. He explained afterwards that he gave everything that he could. This is the first time that he has made the championship in his first year of racing with Richard Childress Racing. He said that he felt that it was a good team effort. He explained that they did not have a good car and there were lots of restarts which were not good and they were often in a bad position on the track but did what had to be done in order to get through. He went on to comment on his incident with Larson saying that he passed him as cleanly as he could and in truck racing a few years ago they were in the reverse situation and so he figured things were even. He went on to say that he felt that if positions were reversed he would probably have done the same thing.
