Ryan Newman will be trying out a brand new car this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. It will be a brand new Chevrolet SS, no 490.
Newman has managed on victory lane visit at Martinsville in 2012 as well as three pole positions in 2002, 2004 and 2009 and has led in 194 laps and made eight top five and 12 top 10 finishes in the 26 races that he taken part in on the track.
He will hope to do as well as he can this week. He is in sixth place in the overall standings but he will need to secure at least one win in order to qualify for the chase. That may be a long way off but an early win could be all it takes.
The new car could give him confidence, perform well for him and help him to get that win. However, getting used to a new car could take some time and he may find that he needs a few weeks at least to get used to driving it. He has said that it is a track he likes as he prefers shorter ones and so this could be good as well. The only way to know for sure though is to watch the race on Sunday.
