Jimmie has a new game coming out for the XBOX Live and PSN. It’s called, “Jimmie Johnson’s Anything With an Engine”. Here is a picture of the Jr.Motorsports No. 7 car he will be driving this weekend in the NNS race at the ‘Glen.

Check out what GamePro has to say about Jimmie’s game.

Check out Team Lowe’s Racing for the Jimmie Johnson fan club and personal info.

We can’t talk about Johnson without saying something about theJimmie Johnson Foundation. The Foundation, which Lowe’s in heavily involved in, is all about the kids. They build parks, schools, and funds blood and marrow drives that have saved thousands of children all across the US.

Johnson is also on Twitter and Facebook.

Let’s give Lowe’s a little competition this week and check out Menards Racing.com.

Check out Menards’ Online store, where I just picked up my Paul Menard Nationwide Shirt. You can grab some Brickyard 400 Champion apparel while you are there as well.

How can we forget the third Home Improvement Giant, Home Depot?

He may have gone from winning to a flat tire this past Sunday, but don’t skip out on checking out Joey Logano.com.

How about our latest race winner, Brad ‘The Kez’ Keslowski? He won that thing while driving with a broken ankle that he sustained during a testing crash at Road Atlanta. Brad lost his brakes and hit the wall at about 155 mph. He says that he is lucky to be alive after the wreck.

Did you happen to see a picture of Brad’s ankle before he got to Pocono? Click here if you haven’t seen it yet.

And you have to check out the pictures that Jimmie Johnson posted of Brad’s testing wreck; here are Brad’s skid marks, here is what is left of the wall that Brad hit, and here is what is left of Brad’s car- all photos are credited to Jimmie Johnson. Please note the lack of Safer Barrier in the area that Brad hit.

All eyes, both fans and Sprint Cup teams and drivers, will be on this race today. The two main stories about this race will be; 1) The battle for the Nationwide Championship and 2) How the new racing surface is going to affect the racing on the track. Of course this may not be exactly in the right order.

The Championship is effectively down to Stenhouse and Sadler. Will the younger driver prevail with youthful enthusiasm or will the seasoned veteran be hungry enough to prevail and win his first Championship?

For more on this check out what NASCAR RNR’s Troy J had to say.

I imagine that there will be more curious eyes peering from the garage area than normal for a Nationwide race because of the new pavement. Will there be two grooves or just one like pre-paved Bristol? Will the racing surface hold up or come apart like Texas years ago? And so on …

There will be a lot to learn from today’s race and the answers may be hard learned for some of the drivers on the track.

For more info and opinion about this subject check out what NASCAR RnR’s very own NASCAR Krissy had to say.

Starting line-up and ‘in-depth race discussion’ after the jump – see you there!

So who is going to flinch first, Stewart or Edwards? Interesting enough that the three points Edwards has over Stewart is the three points he got for having a win in the pre-Chase set of races, otherwise the two have made the exact same amount of points so far in the Chase.

I wonder if we’ll have another storybook ending like Hornish’s yesterday? Time will tell.

It’s sad to see Stremme sitting out this week, even though he ran faster than 6 of the guys who are in the show for today’s race. I still hate the Top 35 rule and starting spots determined by Owner Points and not speed. I guess I’m a minority in that department.

Starting line-up and group discussion after the jump. See you on the other side.

When NASCAR returns to road course racing on Sunday at Watkins Glen, road-ringers Marcos Ambrose and Boris Said will arrive as the early favorites.

Although Ambrose enters the Glen 28th in points, the Tasmanian is riding a steep wave of momentum. Despite announcing that he will leave JTG Racing at season’s end, Ambrose is finding himself an appealing option for several successful Cup teams, including Richard Petty Motorsports who reportedly appeared ready to sign the former V8 Supercar champion. Ambrose should add to that resume on Sunday as the Glen is the Aussie’s best chance to find victory lane. Ambrose already has a second and third at The Glen and is hoping earn a ‘first’ on Sunday.

Said will see a lot of The Glen, driving in all three touring series this weekend. In addition of driving for Team Red Bull and Brian Vickers in the no. 83, Said will also drive in the Nationwide Series and GRAND-AM touring car race. Said hopes that familiarity with The Glen will increase his own chances of winning come Sunday.

Ambrose must be considered the heavy favorite on Sunday. He should have won at Infineon in June if not for stalling his car over the final caution. Ambrose maintains ambivalence on giving up the win but his diction indicates a man eager to finish what he started in the California vineyards.

“If you guys would quit talking about it, I just might get over it faster,” Ambrose said. “There’s enough pressure to win here without placing anymore on myself. We can’t focus on what happened at Sonoma. We just have to keep moving forward.”

No one is more well-versed in moving forward at The Glen than Ambrose. In just four races in the Cup Series, Ambrose has an average finish of 2.5 and has a Cup-level second-best driver rating of 106.9. Is Ambrose the favorite?

“I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of success here,” Ambrose said. “These heavier cars just suit my driving style so well and I have a lot of confidence coming here. I know what I need to do to contend and with this race team behind me, I’m very confident that we’ll go out there we’ll get it done.”

Unlike Ambrose, Said is only running a partial schedule. Said has had success in one-off races but will drive for a new team on Sunday in Team Red Bull.

“I haven’t driven the car yet but I know those guys,” Said said. “They have a class organization. Brian Vickers made the chase last year and he’s a really good friend of mine.

“I really think that this will be one of my best chances to find victory lane. It’s a Top 35 team and I’m going to go for broke this weekend.”

Amborse and Said are both looking for their first career Cup Series victory and could find it this weekend. The two will battle NASCAR’s best at the Helluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen Sunday on ESPN.

The summer of Ganassi continued on Sunday afternoon when Juan Pablo Montoya pulled away over the last 16 laps to secure his second career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory.

The win capped off what has to be the best summer ever for Chip Ganassi Racing, whose 2010 resume also includes the Brickyard 400, Daytona 500 and the two most recent IndyCar Series events.

The full story and the complete results can be found after the fold.

Montoya is the latest to the party, joining Jamie McMurray, Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon as winners in Ganassi’s dream season. It was a long time coming for Montoya, who was winless in 113 races since his first Cup win came at Sonoma in 2007.

“It’s nice,” Montoya said. “We executed right. We did what we had to all day and we really ran smart. The last few weeks have been really frustrating for the whole team because we’ve been so close to victory and it seemed to just keep slipping away.”

The win was especially rewarding for crew chief Brian Pattie, whose pit decisions likely cost Montoya wins at both Indy and Pocono early this summer. The Columbian was especially critical of Pattie last week and the two met with Ganassi on Sunday to move past the frustration.

“We had a really good talk with Chip on Saturday,” Montoya said. “It was all about making sure everyone is on the same page, everybody has to do their job, and we came out and executed.

“To come out and get the job done the way we did, it was big. I feel more relieved than happy right now. It’s been a really hard road in a way. It’s been a lot of fun; it’s been frustrating. To finally get that first win for Brian, I think it’s good. I think we can just focus on getting the job done.”

Montoya battled with Nationwide race-winner Marcos Ambrose all afternoom, finally dispatching of him on lap 60 after the last set of green flag pitstops. Ambrose led for five laps but that proved to be an abberattion as Montoya quickly retook the lead on lap 46 and never looked back, leading 74 laps and took the checkered flag 4.74 seconds ahead of second-place Kurt Busch.

“It was a good weekend for us but I’ve got to tell you it doesn’t feel nice finishing third,” Ambrose said. “I want to win so bad in the Cup Series — this was a really good chance for me. We had a good race car but something went wrong in the last pit stop and we lost the handle on the car.”

While Montoya dominated, the real action took place near the middle of the pack. Clint Bowyer, who enetered the race 12th in Sprint Cup standings, suffered a parts failure and lost three laps to Montoya. Bowyer finished 32nd and fell out of a Chase berth, trading positions with Mark Martin who now sits in 12th, ten points over Bowyer with four races left until The Chase.

Bowyer’s struggles also gave Ryan Newman (-83), Jamie McMurray (-94) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (-121) renewed hopes of making the Chase.

Onward to Michigan.

Another Chase season is upon us and with the top 12 drivers having their points re-established it is almost like starting over which is a good thing if you’re in the bottom half of the 12 after the first 26 races.

It has been a bit of a tradition here at NASCAR RnR to break down the the Chase drivers and boldly predict the eventually finishing order of the Championship Chase. Well in keeping with that tradition we also bring you a special feature in which some of our more frequent contributors give us their thoughts of the Chase.

Just head on to the other side of the jump to find out what we’ve predicted. I personally use a crystal ball but don’t tell anyone, especially Clance from The Church of the Great Oval, she would get really upset with me since it is hers that I’ve been using these last few years (and she thought she lost it when she moved from one State to another – heh).

First we start off with the biggest Tony Stewart fan out there, Aaron (I think I know where this is going):

The story of the 2010 Chase will be what driver best survived the 10-race playoff to claim the championship, not the driver who dominated.

That’s not to say a driver might not dominate the Chase. Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, and Kyle Busch all jump out as potential threats to win at least half the races on the Chase schedule, and resurgent Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, and Tony Stewart also look like they could add to their trophy cases more than a couple of times in the Chase.

However, each of those six drivers have dealt with streaks of disappointing results, either due to performance or just bad luck, and any stretch of bad races will end their title hopes in a hurry.

Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon, Clint Bowyer, and Matt Kenseth are all chasing the title, but the winless quartet has struggled to sustain momentum and only Burton and Gordon have exhibited potential race-winning form. A victory may not be necessary to win the Chase, but consistent top-fives will be.

That leaves regular season point leader Kevin Harvick. Of the 12 Chasers, no one has been able to put together the combination of speed and consistency better than Harvick, and if he continues to do so for ten more weeks, it will be the perfect storm that carries the California native to his first Sprint Cup title, making him the second driver to win the Chase after ending the regular season atop the standings (Stewart in 2005), as well only the second driver to win both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide titles in their careers, joining Bobby Labonte.

Hmm … Kevin and not Tony Stewart? I guess I was wrong with that one. Let’s see what Melissa, aka TrackGirl, has to say:

It is that time of year again. The Chase for the Nextel Cup brings out some of the fiercest racing and some of the most calculated racing in the whole season. The drivers in the Chase must weigh wins to points and careful driving to winning it all.

I always wish this was the time of year that the drivers went all out; you know what to the wall kind of racing… but it really does become a set of races that require drivers to consider whether or not the win is worth the risk, points wise.

I sincerely hope that a sleeper comes out this year. I always hope Kyle Busch will show what he is really made of, but he always seems to fade out in the Chase. I pull for Burton and Bowyer, my favorite underdogs. (They aren’t really though, are they?) I would love to see the 14 come out on top, an owner driver? Cool. But you know, I think that I can say I know this sport; and danged if Johnson isn’t going to pull together with Knaus and kick the other drivers’ rear bumpers from here to Homestead. I just bet that the 48 will win, one more time. I think that Johnson and Knaus want to make a point that they haven’t slumped, or lost it, or faded away and I think that the Chase is where they will prove it.
Wait! Jimmie Johnson? Whoa, didn’t see that coming, I honestly thought she would be pulling for The Biff or Cousin Carl. What do I know?

O.K. now its time for my pick. What? O.K, O.K., what is it now? Were these predictions made before or after yesterday’s race? Before, I just couldn’t get them up in time wihtout really cutting into the Open Race Thread (we had a very busy day with that thread yesterday let me tell you).

Now let me peer into Clance’s … er um … my crystal ball and find out the finishing order from 12th to 1st. The images are spinning around tighter and faster than 43 cars racing the highbanks of Bristol. What’s that I see? A car. Its slowing down, almost stopping caught in the orb’s mystic green glow. What is the number on the side?

12) 17 – Matt Kenseth: Sorry Matt you may be a past Champion but your team is not Championship material (yet, wait until next year).

11) 33 – Clint Bowyer: His team is on the verge of something great – just not this year. If he can some wins under his belt look for him to be top 5 next year.

10) 16 – Greg Biffle: I like Greg but that still won’t make him finish higher than 10th (OK maybe 8th).

9) 31 – Jeff Burton: I would really like to see Burton win the Championship but I think he is the next Mark Martin in waiting

8) 99 – Carl Edwards: The highest finisher of the Roush clan and once they get that new motor figured out look out for him and the rest of his brethren next year.

7) 24 – Jeff Gordon: He may want it just as bad a Jimmie but he doesn’t have Chad, Jimmie does.

6) 2 – Kurt Busch: He may not have any teammates to help him in the Chase like the other drivers (except Stewart – on paper anyway) but that won’t matter anyway, he’d still finish around this area in the standings. Great strides made this year and look for him to be a contender next year, just not this year.

5) 11 – Denny Hamlin: Good driver, just not a great one – yet. He needs to mature a little more. He has shown great strides this year, especially with the whole knee deal, but he’s not quite there yet. Give him 2 yrs.

4) 29 – Kevin Harvick: Unfortunately the regular season counts for squat during the Chase. I really want him to win, but I think his team is going to make mistakes down the stretch that even Kevin can’t drive them back from.

3) 18 – Kyle Busch: He’s here because he is a good driver, not as mature as he should be but a whole lot mature than he used to be. This kid is talented and will win multiple Championships down the road, maybe even next year but just not this year.

2) 14 – Tony Stewart: He is calm, cool, collected, and best friends with his car owner but he is missing the key ingredient that Jimmie Johnson has, Chad Knaus.

1) 48 – Jimmie Johnson: His record setting 5-peat can be summed up in two words, Chad Knaus. Rick Hendrick better do everything in his power to keep these two together because I don’t know if Jimmie will ever win another Championship without Chad on his Pit Box. You need to only look at Ray Evernham and Jeff Gordon to see what I’m talking about.

Moving on to our newest contributor, Brett Hatfield debuts on Ranting and Raving with his Chase predictions.

As much as it pains me to say it, being a Harvick fanboy and knowing that this is his best chance to win the Cup, I just can’t bet against Jimmie Johnson. Jimmie is an absolute BEAST in the Chase every year, and I don’t see that changing this year, despite Superman being a bit “vulnerable”.

As for the rest of the Chase field, I expect Smoke to finally start running better. Gordon will be a threat for sure. I don’t see the Gibbs boys staying in contention for the long run, as I’m not convinced either Kyle or Denny are cut out for the Chase after previous performances. Their styles just don’t mesh well with the unforgiving nature of the system. Harvick will do reasonably well, I think, and maybe take another win at either Phoenix or ‘Dega, but it won’t enough to win the title.

As for a sleeper, look for Carl Edwards to back up his claims of being better prepared than ever for the Chase. Clint Bowyer looks promising too if he can keep his momentum from the last couple events going.

As for Burton, Biffle, Kenseth, and KuBu, I really don’t see this mixer of past and present Roushketeers being much more than an after thought, to be honest. None really seem to have any momentum currently (honestly, I keep forgetting Kenseth and Burton made the cut), but that could always change.

1. Johnson
2. Gordon
3. Harvick
4. Stewart
5. Edwards
6. Hamlin
7. Bowyer
8. KyBu
9. KuBu
10. Biffle
11. Burton
12. Kenseth

O.K. that’s it, tell me what you think? Are we close or way out to lunch? Come on give it to us, we can take it!

In 2006, Jimmie Johnson began the Chase with a 38th place finish. He ended that playoff season with a second, first, second, second, second and ninth en route to capturing his first of four-straight Sprint Cup Championships.

On Sunday he hopes to rebound from a similar start to the 2010 Chase by responding with a victory at Dover. On Friday, he got one step closer, capturing the pole for Sunday’s AAA 400 with a qualifying speed of 155.736 mph (23.116s).

He will lead the field to the green on Sunday followed closely by AJ Almendinger, Martin Truex, Denny Hamlin and Juan Pablo Montoya.

The Chase hopefuls are headed by Johnson and Hamlin with Greg Biffle (sixth), Kurt Busch (eight), and Carl Edwards (10th) rounding out the Chase drivers in the top ten.

A complete lineup can be found after the jump!

Ok everyone, I am sorry I haven’t been on lately. I have been working over 18 hours a day on the sponsor hunt. But I am here now and have a few things to post. I want to start of by saying thank you to 4 ever 3 you are one awesome individual. All of the things you have done to help me is amazing and I will never be able to thank you enough.

I want to update everyone on the things we are working on for our Race for a Cure in 2010. We are in talks with the Susan G Komen Foundation and Children’s Cancer Research Fund to partner with us and raise money for cancer research. We have put together a few programs to raise over 10 Million dollars for cancer research. We are looking for sponsors to get us on the track next year so we can make it happen. I made the decision also that I am going to donate all of my winning to cancer research. We are going to be doing weekly radio and television update about our cause and our donations.

I also want to let everyone know we have partnered with Hinchman Race Wear. Hinchman is going to supply us with all of our custom uniforms for 2010. Hinchman is a great company and have been making uniforms for over 80 years. You can visit there web-site at www.hinchmanracewear.com. Hicnhman is the inavator of race uniforms.

We also have speedlox coming on board to help us in our cause of Racing for a Cure. Speedlox is manufactured by Phenix Industries. Speedlox won the New Product of the Year Award for performance Racing Category at Sema.
Speedlox is the next generation in race plumbing and safety. You can visit there web-site at www.speedlox.com.

We will continue hunting for a primary sponsor to get us on the track in 2010 so we can do everything possible to help find a cure for cancer. We will be promoting our sponsors and our cause ever chance we can. We have put things in place that have never been offered by a race team to help our sponsors with media attention and raise awareness and funds for cancer.

If anyone is interested feel free to contact us at anytime.

Hello Friends and Fans!

I realize it has been a while, and I apologize for not keeping you updated better lately… We have been busy here at Ricky Byers Racing, still trying to rustle up our primary sponsorship to get out on the track and make a difference by RACING FOR A CURE!

Ricky Byers Racing is very grateful to the associate sponsors who have already come alongside us in our endeavor to take a stand against cancer, including a new brand with which we are currently discussing partnership. Watch for a possible announcement about this exciting news soon!

Know that we have not given up, fans! Far from it! We have an entire team of dedicated folks hard at work trying to cover all aspects of achieving the goal to get me out there on the track to do what I know best… racing!

It does get frustrating, and I do have to fight being discouraged a lot of the time. I don’t understand why it is so hard for some corporation to see what a win-win deal this is. A proven driver, in the good equipment of well-respected, long-time car owner Andy Belmont – who has been nothing short of spectacular in his gracious support of our attempts to secure funding for his ride – should be a no-brainer. With the media draw of my story alone, now that they will look for “real” stories, not to mention all the promotional activities we have planned in our sponsors’ names; why, the brand recognition available through Racing for a Cure with Ricky Byers alone is a Victory Lane of its own. There is a company out there waiting for just this opportunity to showcase their brand… and we will find them.

In the meantime we have another exciting promotion we want to share with fans right now. Prilosec OTC currently has a program to vote for your favorite potential Prilosec OTC spokesperson! So all you Ricky Byers fans out there need to go to http://www.officialsponsor.com/ and cast your vote! Just enter ‘Ricky Byers’ in the search window, and then click on “Cancer Survivor Race Car Driver.” Vote and then leave a comment to let them know how much you believe we deserve to win and be awarded the sponsorship! Thanks, fans!! You can go back each day and vote! Every little bit helps!

Another endeavor we are currently involved with is a diecast replica of the Daytona test car. Friend Chip Perkins created a remarkable 1/24 scale duplicate of the Corrie Stott car we ran as fast as 8th quick at the test in December ’09. Action Diecast would be my choice if I were to have them made in quantity, and I would surely like to use them for promotions toward Racing for a Cure… but at 1,000 minimum to order, I’m afraid that unless I get some more positive feedback, I might have to wait a little while on this project. People seemed to balk at spending the money for charity when I brought it up on my facebook page. Well, when we bring a primary sponsor on board, everything will be different and we can move forward with these items unencumbered.

Well, for now, I want thank you all for your faithful support, your prayers, and your loyal friendship on this journey. You are all very much appreciated.

Check out the video I have posted below from a local news station interview last winter, and don’t forget to go vote at the Prilosec OTC page!

Till next time, this is Ricky Byers Racing, wishing you all good health and God speed!
