It was the start of a new round in the Chase for the Sprint Cup and it was expected that things could get exciting at Kansas. Joey Logano took victory and secured his place in the next round, with his main rivals having problems that helped him to find success. He led for the last 15 laps after having overtaken Ryan Newman and kept Kyle Larson at bay. His team chose to give him four new tyres towards the end of the race, when others just took two and this seemed to have paid off for them as he managed to stay in the lead. Other contenders had already pulled out such as Brad Keselowski who hit a wall after his tyres failed. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson crashed and so they were out as well. The Nationwide series were also at Kansas this weekend and it saw Kyle Busch as the victor for the sixth time this season. This has allowed him to extend his series record victory to 69 having managed to pass Kevin Harvick at the end of the race to take and hold the lead. Ryan Blaney was third and Chase Elliott came tenth but still held on to his points lead with just four races to go.

There was no Camping World Truck race this weekend and there will be none next weekend, but then there will be the last five races of the season which should prove to be exciting. The current leader, Matt Crafton is only 19 points above Johnny Sauter in second place and Ryan Blaney and Darrell Wallace Jr all have a shot at catching him, although the other drivers may be too far away from things to be in contention now. They still have personal pride and their teams to drive for though so it does not mean that they will not still be trying their best to win.
